The Texas General Land Office(GLO) hosted a workshop for members of the Technical Advisory Committee aimed at discussing coastal resiliency. The workshop was held at the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center and was attended by local stakeholders, as well as officials from across the state.

Among the attendees were South Padre Island resident and president of the Surfrider Foundation South Texas Chapter, Rob Nixon, Tony Reisinger, of the UTRGV Coastal Studies Lab, Boyd Blihovde, refuge manager for the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refude, and Cameron County Parks Director Joe E. Vega, among others.

Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Harte Research Institute, and several private contractors were also on hand.

The daylong workshop was akin to an interactive classroom discussion, as  GLO Deputy Director of Coastal Resources David Green walked attendees through several potential projects along the South Texas Coast. Green described each project, highlighting its location on a satellite image of the Lower Laguna Madre region. As he gave an overview of each project, attendees followed along in workbooks. Those familiar with particular projects were encouraged to share their knowledge.
