Laguna Vista is seeing a shift in those who are filling certain city positions and is also looking into ways to improve its public library.
The Laguna Vista Town Council held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday evening, Nov. 9, 2022.  When Mayor Michael Carter called the meeting to order,  promptly  at  6   p.m., all hands were on deck.
The meeting proceeded with every council member present including Christopher Romero, Johvonne Howard, Bettina Tolin, Rolando Gonzalez, Victor Worrell and Silke De Gobeo. The full complement of council members was joined by City Attorney Alan Ozuna, City Manager Rendie Gonzalez and Bookkeeper Crystal Chapa.
Following invocation, pledge of allegiance and roll call, with no speakers present to address the council, the meeting moved on to the new business at hand. With Oct. Minutes and
Financial Reports approved, Mayor Carter read the Monarch Butterfly proclamation which renews the town’s pledge for the 2022-23 fiscal year. Carter went on to review the steps including maintenance of the butterfly garden at the Town Library.
The  next  order  of business was the second reading of the Ordinance 2022-07, regarding the regulation of liquefied petroleum gas within the town. With the ordinance being in line with the Texas Railroad Commission guidelines, Council Member Tolin offered a motion to approve that was seconded by Council Member Worrell.
Next, City Manager Rendie Gonzalez reviewed the recommendation to appoint Teri Galloway to fill the position left by the outgoing Community Development President. The motion received unanimous approval from the council.
Following that, the council addressed the appointment of Nicole Ekstrom as Parks President. That motion was also met with unanimous approval. Consideration to appoint a Parks Vice President was tabled at the request of City Manager Gonzalez, in order to allow her time for an additional determination regarding the candidate’s availability for the position.
