This past Saturday, April 1, the Port Isabel Junior High Girls 7th & 8th track teams competed at the District Track Meet held in Lyford, TX. The seventh-grade team finished in second place after finishing with 189 team points. Meanwhile, the eighth-grade girls became District Champions by accumulating 181 team points during the meet. The eighth-grade division came down to the wire as the Lady Tarpons were tied with La Feria at 161 points until the PI team placed first in the 4×400 relays to secure the District Championship.
PI Jr. High Track coach Ceci Trejo is proud of both girls track teams’ performances during the district meet and during the season.
“Both the seventh and eighth grade girls are a talented group, whose hard work paid off. The eighth-grade group has made improvements compared to last year, only scoring 75 points (last year) and now scoring 181 points. The seventh-grade group’s future is looking bright. They all performed to their full potential all season and I couldn’t be prouder of these girls,” said Trejo.
