On Aug. 28, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Point Isabel ISD publicly announced that it had received a bomb threat. It was later explained that the threat was received via email. The schools were immediately placed on a “secure” protocol. Meanwhile, the Point Isabel ISD PD, Port Isabel PD and the South Padre Island PD initiated investigations into the matter. As well, state and federal agencies were contacted for assistance.      The schools were searched thoroughly and deemed safe.
According to PIISD, it was not the only Rio Grande Valley school district to receive a bomb threat. PIISD stated that it was informed by law enforcement that these emails did not originate locally and didn’t appear “credible”.
PIISD assured that student and staff safety was its number one responsibility.
Superintendent of Schools, Theresa Capistran stated, “Our commitment to the security and well-being of our students remains unwavering. We are dedicated to maintaining close coordination with our law enforcement counterparts to ensure the ongoing safety of our valued students, dedicated staff, and the Tarpon community. It is imperative to understand that the safety and welfare of our students is of paramount importance.
