Special to the PRESS
In response to the recently vacated Place 5 on the South Padre Island City Council, five candidates have submitted applications as of December 27. The vacancy arose following the untimely passing of Councilwoman Eva Jean Dalton. The position is interim, serving the remainder of Dalton’s term set to conclude later this year.
Come February, the successful candidate will reappear on the ballot for the regular election alongside others who choose to run at that time. A drawing for the ballot order is scheduled for December 28. The contenders for Place 5 include Lisa Graves, Talley Ragsdale, Brad Robinson, Jennifer Stout, and Randolph Stout.
In adherence to the Home Rule Charter and state requirements, South Padre Island City will conduct a Special Election on February 3, 2024. The election process encompasses an early voting period spanning from January 17, 2024, to January 30, 2024, with specific dates and times pending confirmation.
