The City of South Padre Island is working in partnership with the United States Army Corps of Engineers
[USACE], the Texas General Land Office and Cameron County to renourish the beaches on South Padre
Island. The USACE has awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company to perform the regular maintenance dredging of the Brazos Santiago Pass Jetty and entrance channel.

The sediment to be dredged will be used beneficially and it is estimated that 314,000 cubic yards will need
to be dredged. Seventy-five percent of the material (235,500 cubic yards) will be placed in the area from the
northern City limits boundary line at the Hilton Garden Inn to approximately Beach Access 24 (Sapphire
Circle) and twenty-five percent (78,500 cubic yards) of the material will be placed just north within Andy
Bowie Park.

“The City works extremely hard to maintain our beach for the enjoyment of our community members and
visitors,” stated Kristina Boburka, Shoreline Director. “This critical project ensures we have a resilient
coastline to protect against high tides and storm surges while also helping to preserve wildlife habitat for
threatened and endangered species.”

The work is expected to begin inside the City’s limits within the next week and should be completed in
approximately sixty days, weather permitting.
