The City of South Padre Island has had many concerns and issues with parking in the past. With future growth in mind, city staff is working on ways to prevent further issues and to improve accessibility to the beach. The Shoreline Task Force met Monday afternoon to discuss a proposed Beach User Fee Plan to be implemented in the coming year.
Reuben Trevino, Coastal Resource and Parks Administrator, gave a presentation on the proposed program to provide paid parking on Gulf Boulevard. The plan would require beach access users to pay by phone or with an app at the cost of five dollars for five hours.
