The Laguna Madre Water District welcomed its new Finance Director Sanjuana Garcia at Wednesday’s regular board meeting. Garcia is originally from Matamoros, Mexico and received her accounting degree in Mexico as well, attaining her Bachelor’s in Management and Business Administration after becoming a U.S. citizen and moving to the Rio Grande Valley. She has over 20 years experience working in different positions involving internal auditing, working with grants, and fiscal management, most recently with the Brownsville Public Utilities Board.

“I’m very excited to have this opportunity here in Port Isabel,” said Garcia. “I think this is a great place to work for and I’m having an enjoyable time working with the personnel here… I’m already implementing some of the processes for accounting for this coming year.”

Garcia currently lives in Brownsville and considers her most prolific area of expertise in internal controls, audit compliance, and management. She also spoke about some of the goals she hopes to achieve while serving.
