Special to the PRESS
The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce and Pirate’s Fishing Pier are pleased to introduce the 1st Annual Port Isabel Bay Classic Fishing Tournament, scheduled to be held at Pirate’s Fishing Pier May 8-9, 2015.
The one day fishing event begins with late registration on Friday, May 8 at Pirate’s Fishing Pier in Port Isabel from 4:30-9 p.m. Fishing is scheduled to begin the following morning at 6:30 a.m. with a final dock time of 3 p.m. at the Pier. The tournament will conclude with dinner and the awards ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. that evening.
Anglers will be competing for custom awards designed by renowned artist Larry Haines for the Heaviest Redfish, Heaviest Trout, Heaviest Flounder, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Overall Bay. Points are based upon one point per pound and only one fish of each eligible species can be weighed in.
“This tournament was designed to highlight Port Isabel’s rich fishing history,” said Chamber President Betty Wells. “Pirate’s Fishing Pier approached the Chamber about a joint effort and it seemed like a natural fit for the area. We want to help launch the tournament season and promote the year round fishing opportunities of the Laguna Madre area.”
Preregistration fees before May 1 are $75 per adult; $35 for juniors 16 years and under; and $50 for social entrants only. Late fees for adult anglers increase to $90 per angler. Registration fees include a custom embroidered Bimini Bay fishing shirt, tournament hat, and assorted goodies. Friday’s late registration will feature a cash bar, appetizers and live entertainment.
