At the Shoreline Task Force meeting Monday afternoon, Coastal Resource and Parks Administrator Reuben Treviño gladly announced that South Padre Island was again awarded a Coastal Erosion Planning and Response Act (CEPRA) Grant from the Texas General Land Office (GLO) in the requested amount of $1.25 million for the City’s beach renourishment project.

According to the GLO, “The purpose of the CEPRA Program is to implement coastal erosion response projects and related studies to reduce the effects of and to understand the processes of coastal erosion as it continues to threaten public beaches, natural resources, coastal development, public infrastructure, and public and private property.”

With beaches being a priority, as they are the primary attraction for tourists to the area, the City has played an active role in combating the naturally occurring erosion that threatens the Texas coastline, as well as the beachfront homes and developments throughout the City.
