After receiving his resignation last Thursday, the South Padre Island City Council officially accepted the resignation of City Manager Bill DiLibero at a Tuesday morning special meeting.

DiLibero beat out nearly 60 candidates nationwide, and after about two years of service to the city, the City Council unanimously accepted DiLibero’s resignation as well as the prepared separation package.

In the interim, the City Council has immediately appointed Assistant City Manager Darla Jones as acting City Manager. In the past, a staff member has been appointed as the interim until a new, qualified candidate has been selected, however, this time around, Council member Dennis Stahl recommended that the City search for a seasoned, potentially retired City Manager to fill the vacancy, while the City conducts a search that could last for months. The Council ultimately intends to select a qualified candidate with proven leadership experience, but the intention of an outside candidate filling the interim spot was articulated by Stahl as an opportunity to have a proven leader make recommendations while not “politicking” for the full-time spot.
