The beautiful pristine beaches of South Padre Island are a delicate resource whose condition is crucial to the success of the business and tourism environment of the Island community. Maintaining the beaches requires constant stewardship and vigilance, and that job has been the labor of love of the Adopt-A-Beach program for the past 30 years. For three decades, the organization has focused their efforts on protecting the sanctity, openness and cleanliness of public beaches around the state.
As in all great endeavors, the Adopt-A-Beach program would not have succeeded if it weren’t for the concentrated efforts of innumerable volunteers and environmentalists over the years who have donated their time and energy to protecting our beaches. On Saturday, April 23rd, over 1,200 volunteers turned out at numerous beach accesses to participate in the 2016 Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Spring Cleanup on SPI.
