Cameron County Sheriffs deputies aided Precinct 1 constables in the arrest of 36-year-old Laguna Heights resident Steven Amado Lopez last week. Amado was charged with one count of assault family violence, two counts of resisting arrest, one charge of evading arrest — all Class A misdemeanors — and one charge of assault of a public servant, a 3rd degree felony.
The arrest came after constable’s deputies responded to the 100 block of Jackson Street in Laguna Heights in regards to a call about family violence, according to a report obtained by the PRESS. Lopez was not at the residence when officers arrived, but returned later which led to authorities being called back to the location, according to the report.
When they arrived at the scene, Lopez allegedly struggled with officers. “Suspect resisted arrest and evaded arrest. Suspect assaulted a deputy during the process of trying to get away, injuring a deputy,” the report reads.
