Former Port Isabel Tarpon quarterback Kyle DeMoss is starting his second year with the P.I. coaching staff. It’s a time for optimism as coaches and players look ahead to the new season. DeMoss sat with the Press this week and talked about what’s ahead for the 2019 team.

DeMoss was the Tarpon starting quarterback for his junior and senior seasons of 2008 and 2009. After graduating in the spring of 2010, he attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine and was on the football team there.

“I played quarterback and special teams. My sophomore year they moved me to receiver and I continued on special teams. I started all ten games and made a TD reception in one game. Probably the most
fun I had was on special teams,” he said.

DeMoss transferred to UTSA in San Antonio after his second year at Sul Ross but didn’t make the football team there. He became a video co-ordinator and team manager with the basketball team instead.

Prior to graduation from UTSA in December of 2015, with a degree in kinesiology and physical education, he assisted at a summer camp for college and pro basketball players in Las Vegas.

“I helped train college players, NBA players, international overseas players, so that was cool. I worked out NBA players like Fred Van Fleet, DeMarcus Cousins, Kyle Lowery, others,” he recalled. “My favorites were the overseas players. Those guys don’t have any egos – (you could) tell them to do any kind of drill. They just want to get better.”

After the Vegas experience he went to Orlando to work with a post-graduate prep school project that didn’t get off the ground. “
